CPW recovers adult male drowning victim from Eleven Mile Reservoir

CPW recovers adult drowning victim from Eleven Mile Reservoir

LAKE GEORGE, Colo. —- Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers recovered an adult male drowning victim from Eleven Mile Reservoir Thursday afternoon. At 3:30 p.m., CPW responded to a kayaker who flipped into the water during high winds. Officers pulled the unconscious man out of the reservoir and performed CPR on the victim for more than an hour. Hartsel Fire Department, South Park Ambulance and Flight for Life also responded to the scene to assist. First responders declared the man deceased shortly after 4:30 p.m. The Park County Coroner will release the identity and cause of death.

While the man was wearing a life jacket, it did not fit properly and covered the man’s face after he fell into the reservoir. CPW recommends using a Coast Guard approved life jacket while recreating on the water in Colorado. Life jackets should be buckled or zipped, fitting snugly around the abdomen to prevent the device from slipping.
