Colorado Parks and Wildlife reopens shooting range at Basalt State Wildlife Area

BASALT, Colo. — Colorado Parks and Wildlife is reopening the shooting range at Basalt State Wildlife Area, effective Friday, Sept. 4. The range will return to normal operations following a temporary closure initiated due to extreme fire danger in the region.

The decision to reopen follows close coordination with local partners, including the White River National Forest, Roaring Fork Fire Rescue, and Eagle and Pitkin counties. Recent improvements in local fire conditions and fuel moisture levels have allowed officials to determine that the range can once again be operated safely.

"We understand the importance of this facility to the local shooting community and thank the public for their patience and cooperation while these necessary safety measures were in place," said Area Wildlife Manager Matt Yamashita.

While the shooting range was temporarily closed, the Basalt State Wildlife Area remained open to the public. CPW reminds visitors to always practice safe shooting habits and to check the Shooting Range Finder page on the CPW website for current operating hours, range rules, and any future status updates.
